ADHD cleaning schedule maker

Five quick questions about your home, your energy and your week. Get a realistic cleaning schedule you can print on one page or copy as a checklist.

How the schedule maker works

It builds your week around zones, one area per cleaning day, so you are not switching rooms every five minutes. Each day gets only as many tasks as fit your minutes, with the most useful ones first. Then it adds:

If someone else helps, tasks are split between you by minutes, and the ones kids can usually handle are marked.

How to fill it in well

  1. Be honest about your energy. "Mostly low" gives you smaller tasks, fewer of them and a softer week. You can always do more.
  2. Pick fewer days than you think. Three cleaning days you keep beat six you skip. Rest days still get the optional daily reset.
  3. Choose your real minutes. Ten minutes is a real schedule. If you are not sure, start at 10 or 15.
  4. Print it and put it where you will see it. Out of sight often means out of mind. A fridge or the back of a door works.

Try it

Make your schedule above, then run today's zone as a sprint with the cleaning sprint timer.

A sample week

This is what a small apartment, three cleaning days of 15 minutes and "up and down" energy might get:

Day Zone Tasks
Monday Kitchen Counters and stovetop, sink, trash out
Wednesday Bathroom Toilet, sink and counter, mirror, towels
Friday Laundry and living room Start a load, clear surfaces, fold and put away
Any day Daily reset Dishes, 5 things back, wipe the counter, trash if full

The real one depends on your answers, so it will fit your home rather than someone else's.

Why a schedule helps with ADHD

NIMH lists trouble organizing tasks, managing time and remembering daily chores among the signs of inattention, and CHADD suggests breaking big jobs into small steps and short, timed sessions. A written schedule does the remembering and the deciding for you, so the only job left on a cleaning day is to start. Read the ADHD cleaning schedule guide for more on making it stick.

Heads up

Using a strong cleaner on your schedule? Open a window, follow the label, and never mix bleach with ammonia, vinegar or other cleaners.

Questions

Is the cleaning schedule maker free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser. Your answers are remembered only in this browser.

Can I print my cleaning schedule?

Yes. Press Print or save PDF and the schedule prints on one A4 or Letter page, without the rest of the website. You can also copy it as a plain checklist.

What is an ADHD-friendly cleaning schedule?

One that is small enough to start: one zone a day, a short daily reset, a one-task minimum for hard days, and no guilt when you miss a day.

How many minutes a day should I clean?

Whatever you can keep up. Ten to fifteen minutes on a few days a week is a real, useful schedule. The daily reset takes about five minutes.

Can I split the schedule with a partner or roommate?

Yes. Choose who else helps and the schedule splits each day's tasks between you by minutes, and marks the ones kids can usually do.
